The EX150/250 Series mag meter is designed to handle a wide variety of fluids, clean or dirty, corrosive or not, viscous or not, as long as the fluid is conductive (minimum 20 uS/cm, good for almost anything but very pure water). The meters work on an electromagnetic principle: a magnetic field is applied and the electrodes measure the electric voltage in the fluid to determine the flow rate. Therefore, there are no moving parts, and it is less affected by things that are troublesome with mechanical meters. But, when using with chemical injection systems, it is preferred that the chemical be injected downstream (or far enough upstream to allow complete mixing), otherwise the erratic conductivity of the fluid would cause instability in the flowmeter reading.
The EX150/250 series meters have the sensor mounted on a rod that slides in and out of an adapter/isolation valve assembly that mounts on the pipe. Thus, it is adjustable to a range of pipe sizes plus the sensor can be removed while keeping the pipe pressurized. It's also possible, with the right tools, to install the unit while the pipe is pressurized. They come in 2 different size ranges, indicated by the first 4 characters of the model number:
EX15 for 3″-10″ pipe
EX25 for 10″-48″ pipe (up to 72″ optional)
The next digit of the model number indicates what (if any) electronic module is mounted on the unit:
EX??0: Sensor only, with current-sinking pulse output for wiring to external device, e.g., wall- or panel-mounted electronic module
The following character indicates what material the sensor body, shaft and adapter fitting are made from:
EX???B: Brass
EX???S: 316 Stainless Steel
Other options available (dependent on electronics module):
Valve Type ("-08" or "-09"): You can optionally get a stainless steel isolation valve, or the valve can be omitted (you supply your own).
Reverse Flow Output ("-15"): All units provide an open-collector isolated pulse input proportional to the forward flow of the fluid. With this option, there will be an additional output available that will be proportional to the flow of the fluid in the reverse direction. An additional display unit will be required to receive this output.
Tamper-Evident Kit ("-32"): For the units with an FT430 or FT440 module. A wire with a seal runs through the screws, so that the unit can't be opened without breaking the seal.
Immersible Option ("-40"): For the "Sensor Only" models. This provides protection for the sensor in case the installation location is submerged. Immersible to maximum of 3 ft (1m), up to 2 weeks.
Low Power Option ("-50"): Standard units use about 250 mA of current. If the system is to be powered by a battery (e.g., with a solar panel), than you should specify this option, which uses an average of just 40 mA.
Non-Resettable Total ("-64"): Flowmeters that have the FT430 or FT440 module (EX??3 or EX??9 series) can optionally have it so that the total flow displayed cannot be reset to zero.
Insertion Extension ("-72"): The standard EX25 meters can fit 10″-48″ pipe. With this option, they will fit pipes 34″-72″ diameter.
Hinged Display Cover ("-126"): A protective clear cover over the display/keypad of FT430/FT440 modules (EX??3 or EX??9 series). Recommended for all outdoor applications.
Data Logger ("-127"): Flow data logged internally, to be extracted to a laptop for analysis.
